This view of Jerusalem is from Mt. Scopus. The name Scopus means watchtower. Cestius camped here prior to destroying Bezetha in 66 c.e., as did Titus prior to his siege of the city in 70 c.e. Scopus was a Crusader lookout in 1099. Following their conquest of Jerusalem, British forces used Scopus as a field headquarters. From 1925, it has been the home of the Hebrew University. At the far left is the northern spur of the Mount of Olives. At the right is the northern end of the Kidron Valley. The Dome of the Rock is at the far right.
