13"x19" signed print: archival pigmented inks on matte watercolor paper
Located at the far west end of the Roman Forum, the Temple of Vespasian was built by the emperor’s sons, Titus and Domitian, following his death in a.d. 79. The frieze consists of priestly insignia: cap, sprinkler, pitcher, sacrificial knife, patera, saucer, ladle, and ax. The columns were excavated in 1811 by Valdier. In the center of the image are the columns of the Portico of the Die Consentes, the last pagan monument, built in 376 by Vettius Praetextatus.
