Located east of the Forum Boarum and adjacent to S. Giorgio in Velabro, the Arch of Janus dates from the fourth century, possibly from Constantine’s reign. The name derives from the god Janus, protector of road junctions. The arch is partially constructed of ancient fragments with sculpture niches on all sides. This view depicts the north and west elevations of the arch and the tower of S. Giorgio in Velabro.
